RIP Twenties - Hits & Shits of Your 20's
I know I had mentioned in my previous blog posts that I am happy to be leaving my 20's. Though that may be true, I still suffer from some severe nostalgia. There were a lot of good things about being in your 20's that I wouldn't mind living over again. But with the good comes the bad. There are other things I would never want to think about, let alone revisit ever again!
Like I have said, I was never in a rush to grow up. I always made it a point to enjoy the period of my life I was in because I knew I knew I would never be back there again. But with every era in your life, there are pros and cons. So in honor of ending one more chapter in my life, here are my HITS and SHITS of your 20-somethings!
HIT: Minimal responsibility
This is the sweet spot. You don't have your own family yet but you are working full time like a grown ass adult. Which means you can spend the income you have on...YOURSELF.
SHIT: You're broke
Remember that income you can spend on yourself? You will using most of it paying off your YOUR college debt and starting your life.
HIT: Experiencing new things
With the curiosity and energy of your teens and without restriction of your minor age, the world is your oyster! Go out and do everything, see everything! There are no boundaries!
SHIT: Your parents frequently forget you are an adult
To your parents you will always be that snotty kid with Pokemon cards in hand. But be patient with them. After all, at this point, the majority of your life was spent not being able to buy your own beer. They will come around.
HIT: Energizer energy levels
Your inner wild child peaks as you can party all night and all day. You bounce back from a hangover a lot faster too. Don't take for granted the energy you have to hike up and down a mountain, the courage to take a mud bath with elephants, and the balls to stay in a sketchy hostel.
SHIT: No one wants to hire you
We've all been there. You're a new grad eager to start a new job. In order to get a job, you need some work experience. But how do you get experience if no one will give you a job? The struggle is real.
HIT: Finding yourself
This is the time in your life you start realizing what you actually like. You begin developing your dreams. You have a better understanding of yourself and that is the key to knowing the direction in your life.
SHIT: The Quarter Life Crisis
Before your find yourself, you usually go through a Quarter Life Crisis which includes constant freak out about where are you going in your life, panic attacks about that ticking internal clock, and paranoia about expectations of where you are "supposed to be" at this point in life. But this is a necessary evil. It's through this process you will know who you really are and if you've got the chops to live this life.
HIT: Finding Love
What bliss it is! You're so young and open to fall in love. Unlike your teen years, these relationships are an investment in your future. You are old enough to make a decision if this is forever or just for tonight. You know what qualities you actually want and you progressively get better at being in a relationship.
SHIT: Finding Love
What torture it is! It's virtually impossible to meet anyone after you leave university. I guess you could Tinder or go on Plenty of Fish, we don't have to do this the old fashioned way. You're too picky, but refuse to lower your standards. And when the time comes that you do find the one, it will take FOREVER to put a ring on it.
The 30's will present a new crop of joys and challenges, for sure. What are some of your Hits & Shits of your 20's?!
