Packing: Casual Weekend Away

This weekend I went up to the lake with some friends to pay our respects to the death of summer.  *Siiiiigh.  Since we are in-between seasons, I have to be prepared for the beach as well as the cool temperatures. September can’t figure out what the hell it wants to do!! Is it cool? Is it hot?

A weekend trip means you are going away for 2-3 days NOT 2-3 weeks.  I’m no diva so best to leave leave the weave, Swarovski crystal Louboutins, & Hermes purse at home.  I am going to pack ONE BAG.

Know Your Destination
Location: Cottage country with a lake
Climate/Weather: between summer & fall/sun with a day of rain.
Activities: Swimming (weather permitting), Walking, Lounging

Guidelines
- In between seasons weather means anything can happen, make sure you bring items suitable if it gets hotter or cooler. Focus on LAYERING.
- Make your clothes do double duty.  Cute enough to wear out and comfy enough to lounge in just in case the rain keeps us in.
- Remember your basics. Bring a bottom and a couple tops that are neutral colored so they can go with everything.

Quick List

Practice by laying out your outfits to see which items go together.  If you are still in doubt, try 'em on to see what works and what doesn't.  My rule is to have each piece match more than 2 other pieces.

Even though this will be a short road trip up north, I will not over-pack just because I can fill up a car.  I used a medium sized yoga bag and when fully packed I had plenty of room that could fit another pair of sneakers and my jacket. Being a LEAN traveler is a useful skill to have. This is great practice for when you travel by air and have to adhere to a ton of restrictions.

Happy Packing!
