Since it is the Holidays, there will be many men taking to the skies to visit friends and family. So I have been asked by some of the gentlemen in my life to help them pack this holiday season. Though I am a woman, I have still applied the same principles I have used in my other capsule wardrobes I created.
I find men's capsules to be a little challenging because unlike the ladies, traditional men cannot throw on a pair of heels and extensive jewels to dress things up. Divas, we all have it easier in this sense. Thinking outside the box was challenging but I was able to come up with something like this:
Winter is my least favorite time to travel. Not only is the weather where I am horrendous, it is also extremely difficult to pack a bag of warm winter clothes! The key? LAYERING! If you can layer like a BAWSE you can definitely travel light. I would say this size wardrobe is great for a 2-3 week trip. If you are going for less, I am sure you can get away with 2 pairs of pants and a couple less tops.
Capsule wardrobes don’t necessarily have to be monochormatic. I have added a festive sweater and some plaid for the holidays. But try playing with different color palettes and see what you can come up with. As usual, I am using my rule of 3’s: each item have to match with 3 or more other items I am bringing. This helps ensures the versatility of your garments within that capsule wardrobe.
As you can see, there’s a lot you can do with button down shirts and cardigans because they can easily be layered or worn alone. Also, taking various types of pants (here I have a pair of jeans, some joggers, and a pair of trousers) helps maximize all possible wardrobe scenarios.
As you can see there are extensive outfit possibilities with the few items I brought. You can create a look that is fireside cozy to dinner appropriate to street style expert.
TIPS
- Remember to wear your bulkiest items on the plane. That means your chunkiest boots and thickest jackets to prevent taking up space in your suitcase.
- Never underestimate the versatile power of a tapered jogger. These things provide incredible comfort, warmth, and style. These days you can find decent pairs that can be mistaken for a professional-looking trouser.
- Try bringing items that are different from one another in color and style. For example, you probably won't be wearing 2 cardigans at the same time so by bringing one dressier and the other funkier style, you can double your looks.
This proves you can travel light AND have some exciting fashion options. You just have to know how to utilize the items you are bringing. Men, lay out your items on your bed. Even try your outfits on before packing to get a picture of what your options can look like. Make sure your garments are comfortable, fit well, and versatile enough to wear on multiple occasions.
Good luck and play fearlessly!
