Keep Those Resolutions

The end of December blankets us in nostalgia, thinking about the year that has passed. And also gives a little bit of hopefulness as a new year is about to begin. This is the perfect time to start anew! You have a blank page of the first chapter of the year. It’s easy to make resolutions for the year, but keeping them is another story though. I have some tips that has helped me keep my resolutions from January to December!

Realize Your Control
Most people want to make a change in something. That’s the reason why they make resolutions. I realized that I can only control the things I do and nothing else. I find a lot of people are too hard on themselves when things don’t happen the way they want because of external factors out of their control. SHIT HAPPENS. So be an intelligent human being and PROBLEM SOLVE. The world isn’t over. Your resolutions and goals aren’t shattered. Find your way around it.

Make Them Attainable
Make sure your resolutions aren’t impossible to attain. Setting impossible standards can downplay all that you have actually achieved. If you tell yourself you will save 90 cents for every dollar you make and actually save 50 cents it will seem as if you have short of your goal when your feat is already an impressive one. So really think of what you CAN realistically achieve this year.

Take It Seriously
If you really want to keep your resolutions this year, you have to take them seriously! Don’t brush them off like some fleeting thought. If you want to achieve them, you have to tell yourself this is what you want to do and you are going to do it! Keep a reminder for yourself. This could be anything, like keeping a list on your phone. Or have it as your phone wall paper so you see it everyday. You can make yourself accountable by having other people check in with you or post your progress publicly. Do what will help remind you and motivate you.

Just Keep Swimin’
Lastly and most importantly…NEVER GIVE UP. Cliché, I know. But we are all human and we have setbacks. Don’t let one small trip or stumble hold you back from doing what you want. Your ultimate goal is to move forwards. At any given time during the year you can turn things around and do just that!

Continue striving to be a better version of yourself. This is a never-ending journey you will take until the end of your life. There are no failures, just lessons learned. Here are my 2015 resolutions...
2015 Resolutions
BE FEARLESS – I am continuing this difficult fearless journey
CATCH DREAMS – I will put in more effort to make more of my dreams a reality instead of keeping them as dreams
CELEBRATE THYSELF - I will try and put myself out there and take advantage of opportunities instead of hiding quietly.

I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do this year!
