Not Another Fashion Blogger

Although fashion and style walk hand-in-hand, there is a difference between them.  Fashion is what is offered to you, what is available, what you can buy, what the professionals are telling you is in season.  Style, on the other hand, is more of an internal, individualized concept.  It is the pieces you choose to wear, it is how you wear it, it is how you want to represent yourself.

I was one of the handful of minorities at my school.  I already didn’t blend in, dressing like all the other kids wouldn’t change that. There was nothing I could do to change my face or my skin or my hair. So early on I HAD to be ok with who I was and what I looked like. I had nothing to lose, so I danced to my own rhythm. When all the girls in my class were wearing those embellished flares of the 90’s, I wanted to wear baggy boys’ pants.

I carried that attitude on into adulthood.  I have grown up carefully curating my style. I get enjoyment out if it because it is another creative form of expression.  I am able to BE anyone I want & express anything I am feeling.  It’s very liberating!  I won’t be bothered by others’ opinion of me because there will always be someone who ISN'T feelin’ me.

So am I a fashion blogger? HELL NO. I’m not here to tell you what the upcoming trends are to keep you ahead of the game.  I’m not going to report on fashion shows I don’t understand.  Or try to justify to you why you NEED brand-name or designer things.  I don’t have the expertise for that.  My goal here is to help you feel good about yourself!  I want those who read the shit I write to try something new, to experiment, to learn something, to feel confident in whatever they have in their closets, and to feel the freedom to DO YOU!  Being fashionable is NOT the solution to your self-image problems, but maybe discovering and creating your style is.

Remember, confidence is the one accessory that matches everything, all year round.  It doesn’t cost a cent and definitely enhances anything you want to wear on your bodies or on your face.  And once you achieve this, you will see how it also affects the WAY you travel (which is another one of my passions).

So maybe to you, you see my blog as another place to facilitate people in becoming more superficial, I can assure you I am trying to do something MORE with purpose.  Deny it as much as you want.  First impressions and appearances play a HUGE role in our existence. You see it being naturally played out in animals and plants.  I truly believe in empowering people positively.  I am so blessed to have turned out the way I did.  I was able to find my strength early on.  As a result, I feel the need to share that with women AND MEN to help them find the strength they may have lost.

So if you are looking for the latest trend or outfits other people are going to like, I’m probably not the best resource for that.  But if you are looking for some inspiration and support, I’m right here for yuh!!
