29 Things...Part I

My 29th birthday is quickly approaching. AHHH I’m freaking out because I feel like I’m still 21! I suppose the key to looking young is feeling young! Usually before my birthday I like to do some reflection on my life. I look at where I have been and where I would like to go. A part of that process, I like to make lists of things I am thankful for, things I have done, things I want to do, & things I have learned. For each list I write down 1 thing for every year of my age(in no particular order). This year I thought I would publish my lists! Let's start with the 29 things I am thankful for...
1. My unchanging faith and love for God – It has carried me through the rough times and the amazing ones
2. My health – I am fortunate enough to live my life the way I want without any health obstacles!
3. My family – YUnited, my rock. This includes my fur baby, Grizzly.
4. My friends – My St. Nicks girls, Rez Staffers, the WOOF crew, the Turkey Sandwich, the Bear Fam and everyone in between. What a boring life I would have had without you.
5. My other half – there is so much more than what meets the eye
6. My confidence – I am comfortable with being who I am around other people who have a problem with it
7. A job – no matter how poopie it is…it’s better than being unemployed.
8. My education – after all the work I put in and all the money my parents shelled out, I am thankful I am less ignorant than yesterday
9. My family’s sacrifices – being an immigrant to this country we really had to work hard from nothing to make it to where we are today. My parents put my sister and I through school, they own a house bigger than what they need, they go on vacations to see the world, and looking forward to a comfortable retirement. I have everything I do because of this.
10. The Grand Palladium + Travel Club Membership – great timing to discover the resort and then to join the club. It has become my home away from home where I have met some great people and where I recharge!
11. A strong will power and good conscience
12. Staying single – I started dating at 22. I was able to become the strong and confident woman I wanted to be. I discovered who I really am and what I really want before getting into a relationship.
13. Growing up around racist people – I gained sympathy and a sense of justice because of this. I grew an open mind regardless of race, social status, religion, disability, and illness I saw what makes people human. It also taught me to stand up against bullies.
14. Having an artistic sense – I am able to create things. Whether it is dancing, drawing, planning, styling, designing, etc, I feel no limits in ways I can express myself.
15. My Lola being 84 and still able to travel – She is still visiting me from Manila every year. She still accompanies us all over the Caribbean and even Europe! And she still has all her marbles.
16. Being able to travel – No amount of money can be put on the experiences you can gain on your travels.
17. Living at home – so much money saved so I can make smart investments
18. Being Canadian – I have freedom and safety here.
19. Cameras – I can keep my memories forever (& have proof my friends were behaving badly at the bar)
20. My eyebrows – Superficial right? But I’m still thankful for having a couple brows that I can still get away with without filling or plucking.
21. Starbucks, Menchies, Ketchup Chips, Presidents Choice – I think I mean the variety of available food in general.
22. Technology – I can check up on my family and friends around the world no matter where they are
23. Dancing – The joy of my life. I need to make more time for it.
24. Kind strangers
25. To hear, taste, touch, smell, and see – my senses to fully experience the world
26. This world – the beautiful places and the secrets they contain, all for me to discover!
27. Things I am good at – my talents & skills, the things I have to offer to make this world better
28. Being bilingual – I came to Canada when I was about 6. My parents forced me and my sister to speak Tagalog when we were at home. I didn't realize how valuable this was until I met many other Filipino-Canadians who can't even understand their language.
29. For every birthday – I am grateful for the gift of life
