I'm talking about A SARONG.
Sure, this
is a no-brainer for beach destinations. But I have brought this with me in snow
mountain climates and through European cities.
As a scarf – typically how I wear this on the go. The medium material provides the right amount of warmth while still being able to breathe making it easy to adjust in temperature changes.
As a blanket – I arrive in the airport
wearing this as a scarf, but as soon as I hit that chilly and dry airplane air,
I convert this into a blanket.
As a shawl – in Europe, I used this to
cover my shoulders when I would enter churches. This is also handy for
air-conditioned/drafty places
As
a beach cover up
– The obvious choice. This is what the sarong was intended for.
To
dry off –
Yes if I don’t have a towel on hand I will use my sarong. This is actually pretty great for drying your hair! The material is
absorbent and dries quickly.
To sit on – for any impromptu beach trips or picnics
As
a privacy shield
– I have used this to cover myself when I need to change by draping it over
myself or I ask a friend to hold it up like a screen. I also lay it over the
tops of open beach or shopping bags to cover the things inside.
As a pillow –
No matter where I am, I can roll this up to rest my head on.As an umbrella - OK...this one is a stretch. BUT I have used it several times to beat the elements. I cover my head when going through the rain from one dry place to another and to get some shaded relief from the hot sun.
As a mask - as an asthmatic person, I have used this to cover my nasal passage when I am in heavily polluted areas or around smokers.
I am sure there are many more ways to MacGyver this item, which is why it accompanies me in all my trips. Not to mention it comes in a never-ending selection of patterns and colors that can work well with your outfits. So on your next journey, don't forget to take a sarong with you.
