I never thought I would see the day I would wear sweats to work! Alleluia!! As a long time wearer of men’s tapered sweatpants, the athleisure trend has been a HUGE hit with me! Designers have been using the silhouette and comfort of a jogger and converted it to something more luxurious using materials like silk and leather making some styles entirely office appropriate! I’m sure I will have a lot of critics out there who don’t agree with me. That’s okay, to each their own.
Material – make sure the material is
not casual like a denim, fleece, jersey, or cotton knit. I’ve been seeing more
and more joggers that look like wool and “dress-pants material” but are super
stretchy.
Color/Pattern – if you
work in a traditional office, I would say a solid black or gray is your safest
bet. Plus you can wear those with any blouse you already have in your closet.
You can also find some patterns with a subtle print keeping your look playful but professional.
Style – Make sure there
aren’t too many embellishments like buttons, zippers and studs. Keep it simple
and clean so you look like you're all business.
Fit – Remember, some may
fit loose, NOT BAGGY. Never baggy. You want it to fit comfortable on your hips
or waist and have the material lightly drape over your goods. Others are more
tapered and more fitted which is fine, as long as the length hits at your ankle
and doesn’t give you the dreaded cameltoe
I bought these 2 pairs from Zara during their winter sale.

Once you have brought home the perfect one, you have to know how to
incorporate it into your office-wear.
A Blouse
Yes, almost any blouse you wear to work can be worn with these. If the hem falls below the hip, try tucking it in for a cleaner look. Stay away from tunics and really billowing silhouettes.

A Button Up Shirt
This timeless piece can be worn with ANYTHING and the jogger is no
exception. It is a staple in everyone's closet! Here I am wearing a men's shirt, which I prefer when it comes to a button up. I like the longer hem so I am able to wear it as a tunic as well. I also like the straight fit of the torso.
A Blazer
A blazer is a go-to when it comes to business attire. Here I layered it over a basic white tank top. This looks can easily transition me from work to play. You can also try layering it over a button up or blouse if a tank top or t-shirt isn't your thing. Make sure the blazer is not oversized and the hem is not too long.
A Sweater
Whatever
work-appropriate sweater you wear in the office will work fine with these. I would
probably stay away from anything oversize or a chunky knit to keep it clean and
crisp. If you decide to go with a more casual sweater, try dressing it up with a statement necklace.
I am sure this look isn't for everyone. But don't knock it 'til you try it! Especially now, there are lots of affordable options. Forever 21 and H&M have some styles under $20 and $30. Personally, I will try anything that will keep me comfortable and looking like I should be in a business setting!
Good Luck! & Play fearlessly!
