A Fresh Start: Resolutions To Make BEFORE Getting Fit

Weight-loss/fitness resolutions are some of the most common people make. And a lot of the time these are broken by March. YEP! We’ve all been there! But this year it’s going to be different, right? Keeping this resolution for the year is a difficult feat! I have been on a fitness journey of my own so I know how challenging it is! But I’ve also learned a thing or two about sticking to a healthier lifestyle and not falling into the pit of temptation. Here are some co-resolutions you should probably make to compliment your 2015 weight-loss vow.

1. Love Yourself
Easily said, incredibly tough to do, but extremely necessary for this process. Before you even begin your healthy transformation, you need to gain some self-acceptance and self-confidence first. You need to love who you are TODAY not hope to love who you are going to be. No workout or diet will ever change the way you feel about yourself if you don’t first accept yourself for who you are, what you have to offer, and your worth. This will help motivate you and get you back on track if you veer off. You will NOT give up because you KNOW you are worth MORE than that.

2. Break Free
This year you won’t give a damn about what people say or think about you. You can’t satisfy everyone. Critics, the self-righteous, and the judgemental will never go away. So we’ve got to learn to live with it. If there’s anything we learned from Taylor Swift in 2014 is that Haters gonna hate, playas gonna play, so we gotta shake, shake, shake, it off. Searching for others’ praise is the wrong motivation to get fit. You have to be your OWN motivation in order to be successful in this journey.

3. Quit Measuring Up
I find making comparisons to be the unhealthiest habit, ESPECIALLY with social media now. You cannot compare someone’s manufactured best to your worst! This can lead unrealistic, unattainable targets…like the "thigh gap". CRAZY. UNATTAINABLE for most. UNHEALTHY. The only thing you should be comparing is where you were yesterday to today in order to gauge your progress. Define your OWN end-game. This will help in creating goals customized for your unique body without all the pressure to be something you are not.

4. No More BS-ing
You are over excuses, that was so 2014. This is YOUR choice to get healthier. Only you are in control of what you do. You are an intelligent human being. You know what that means? You can problem solve when you hit a roadblock! Who knew!! Don’t accept the roadblock as the finish line! Hop it, go around it, plow through it!!! Obstacles slow you down, not stop you. No time to workout today? Wonderful. You have tomorrow and the rest of your life to squeeze it in.

5. Grow A Pair
I don’t mean to support your aggression. You need to toughen up. Discouragement and disappointment are part of life. It should fuel your motivation, not knock you off your hustle! We all have it in us to be brave and recover from heavy and broken hearts. Utilize your strength to get back on track towards your goal, not to prove anyone wrong, but to get WHAT YOU WANT.

When you look at yourself, what do you feel? No one has to deal with that except YOU. It doesn’t matter what people say and think, including myself. I’m just trying to spark something in your brain that you know innately to be true but were trained to think otherwise. How you view yourself is the only opinion that should matter. If you aren't happy with yourself before, you won't be happy with yourself after. Remember YOU are a soul, intelligence, and personality living inside a body. Like a car with a fresh paint job and sexy rims, if the engine is busted it serves no purpose.

Hopefully this gives you the RIGHT motivation to continue this journey to improve your quality of life. And remember, baby steps FORWARD are 10 times better than standing still. This may take you a while to get to your goal but at least you will get there!

GOOD LUCK! & stick to it!!!
